about

Liner Notes by Dave Miller, 2002:

I’d only left the apartment to give a friend a quick ride, but when I got back I was told I was going to start a record label. “Hardo sez it only costs $500 for 500 7 inches!” My reaction was exactly as my wife predicted – “What do I know about running a record label?” and “500 bucks is a lot of money.”

Well. Needless to say, 1000 seven inches (many of which are still in my basement), 2 tours and three thou later, I must say I had a fuckin’ blast. How can I forget sleeping on cat piss floors, Brian’s bologna sandwiches, wet smokes and girlfriends, petty bickering, Hardo’s foot fungus infections, broken mufflers, Hank’s studliness, playing for tips in Milwaukee by taking requests from a smelly metal dude dubbed “Funyon man,’ Jer’s turtle like stance at the mic, Cross Street Station, Whip-its at the Red Door, Taco Bell, Waxl’s Shoes, screaming for ‘Great White Buffalo’ in the U.P., scummy strip clubs, and being woken up by Kansas City’s finest in the cancer park lying next to a pile of my own puke and 2 piles of dog shit after a rough night and bad show? The fond memories are too many to mention. Pretty much shits n grins.

Slugbug was responsible for most of the fun I had running the label. A straight-up no bullshit rock n roll band. They didn’t break any new ground or set any trends but damnit they enjoyed what they did and did it gosh darn well. You could always count on them do deliver the rock and have a good time doing it. Who else would let a drunken 30 year old birthday boy get up and belt out some Stones while wearing a red bra?

This CD contains almost everything they ever recorded and some rare live tracks. Sit back and prepare to have yer dong rocked off. Hope it’s as good for you as it was for me.

Thanks guys!

2010 Update: Every few weeks someone asks me about SlugBug. I’ll get an email or meet someone at the bar: “Is your stuff on CD? What’s Hardo and Brian up to? I remember seeing you guys in Ypsi….” It’s flattering to know that we can look back as old men on a batch of songs and shows that a few people dug.

We lost Dave Miller in 2003. He is as much a part of this band’s history as any of us. Chicago will never be the same.
